Susan Hiller
1940 - 2019
Originally trained as an anthropologist, the award-winning artist Susan Hiller explored the marginal, the arcane and the mystical through what she saw as a paraconceptual practice. Her revelatory works include films, sound pieces, sculptures and installations, which represent the fringes of human behaviour within a contemporary art framework. In Blue Vapours, Hiller assembled pictures of apparitions she had found online into an ectoplasmic collage.
Collections include Ludwig Museum (Cologne), Museum of Modern Art (New York) and Moderna Museet (Stockholm).
