Dr Francesco Ponte
Puerto Rican physician Dr Francesco Ponte investigated psychic phenomena during the interwar years. His séance photographs purported to capture spirit materialisations and ectoplasmic projections, blurring documentation with spectacle. Ponte’s little-known images exemplify the ambiguous status of spiritualist photography, where evidence of the beyond became indistinguishable from its theatrical performance.
